The following is all the information needed for obtaining a broker license and how @ Home Prep can help pass the state exam!
License Education:
Pre-license
- 180 class room" hours of prelicensing courses
Continuing Education
24 hours of continuing education every 2 years (3 hours in Ethics and Standards of Conduct, 2 hours in Fair Housing, 1 hour in Legal Updates and Emerging Trends, 1 hour in Real Estate Agenct, 1 hour in Real Estate Contracts)
Other Requirements:
- Must be 18 years old
- Must have a high school diploma or GED
Applications:
To apply, contact the state ofVirginia (804) 367-8526. There is an $170 application fee that must be submitted with the application.
Reciprocity:
If you are licensed in another state, you are still required to apply for a license in Virginia. However, your scores from the National Portion of the examwillbe accepted.
Examinations:
- The testing company is PSI and can be contacted at (800) 733-9267
- The exam fee is $60
- Test is divided into two sections, National and State, which comprises 110 questions
- 3 hour time limit for both sections
- Topics on the national portion of the exam include property ownership, land use control and regulations, valuation and market analysis, financing, laws of agency, mandated closures, contracts, transfer of property, practice of real estate, and real estate calculations.
- Topics on the state portion of the exam includelicensing, escrow accounts, disclosure requirements, agency definitions and relationships, Virginia fair housing law and regulations, specific acts pertaining to real estate practice
