License Education:
  • 96 hours of prelicensing courses
Continuing Education:
  • 16 hours of continuing education every 2 years
Other Requirements:
  • Must be 18 years old
  • Undergo a criminal background check
Applications: To apply, contact the state of Iowa (515) 281-3183. There is an $50 application fee that must be submitted with the application.

Examinations:
  • The testing company is PSI and can be contacted at (800) 733-9267
  • The exam fee is $90
  • Test is divided into two sections, National and State, which comprises 120 questions
  • 3 hour time limit for both sections
  • Topics on the uniform portion of the exam include property ownership, land use control and regulations, valuation and market analysis, financing, laws of agency, mandated closures, contracts, transfer of property, practice of real estate, and real estate calculations.
  • Topics on the state portion of the exam include licensing requirements, licensing procedures, disciplinary actions, real estate education, trust accounts, contracts, disclosure requirements, Iowa Civil Rights Act of 1965, unlicensed assistants
